Forbesganj is a town in Araria district of Bihar. Being located near Indo-Nepal border, it remains a hub of activities in the region. It is one of the important towns of Araria and cater well to the requirement of its residents.
Geography of Forbesganj
Forbesganj is positioned at 26.3 degrees in North and 87.265 degrees in the East. The avg. elevation of Forbesganj is 151 ft or 46 m. Named after British officer 'Forbes', the region was exploited owing to indigo cultivation that yielded huge benefits to the officials of the British government. Ruins of British premises at the river bank of Sultan Pokhar still reminds the gory past of the bygone era. Forbesganj is a well-planned town which boasts Sadar road and Central road that pass through the center of the town. A majority of renowned shops lie on either side of Sadar road. Hospital road which links to the bus terminal; runs through the other side of the town and then connects to the highways.
Economy of Forbesganj
Forbesganj is famous for the supply of construction and building material. There are few small scale industries located here. Agriculture and cattle rearing also forms the source of income in this part of Bihar. Rice production, fertilizer production and some other kinds of industries also contributed in thge economy of the region. Alu ka chokha(made with mashed boiled potatoes and spices), mixed vegetable and dal-bhaat(pulses and rice) is the staple food of the town. Buses ply daily between Forbesganj and other major cities like Kolkata, Birpur, Patna, Darbhanga, Siliguri, Katihar, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Jogbani and Saharsa.
